Letter from AEPL "Governance of Artificial Intelligence".

Published on 10/06/2020

Madam President of the European Commission,

Towards ethical artificial intelligence.

Your European vision of Artificial Intelligence, giving primacy to ethics, continues to hold the full attention of the European Association of Free Thought (AEPL).

The European Association of Free Thought is regularly informed and consulted by the European Commission within the framework of the Dialogue, article 17 of the Treaty of Lisbon (TFEU). AEPL is recognised as a non-confessional organisation that supports the European project. This is why it is very interested in Artificial Intelligence and its ethical aspects.

We are writing to you about the documents published by your departments on 19 February 2020. Our comments are set out in two complementary documents:

  1. Towards better European governance of Artificial Intelligence.
  2. Comments on the "White Paper on Artificial IntelligenceA European approach based on excellence and trust", "A European strategy for data", "Shaping Europe's digital future: Commission presents data and artificial intelligence strategies".

We remain at your disposal to answer any questions you may have. Please accept, Madam President, the assurance of our highest consideration.

Tony Van der HAEGEN Claude WACHTELAER

                      Vice-Chairman Chairman
